Shahbaaaaz

Tariq Ahmad:
During my school days I would ,sometimes, visit to my friendjs home at Watergam. My friend was very much inclined towards poetry. He had acquired this trait from his parents. His father Shiekh Abdul Khaliq was very much avid of poetry. He would recite to me the rare poetic pieces of Zaib-un-Nisa.He would recite dozens of couplets of Iqbal, and Mahjoor. At times he would compare Iqbal with Mahjoor for me.
Shiekh Mohammad Syeed(My friend) was equally a poetic genius. He had learnt the poetry of Mushtaq Kashmiri in his tender age.He would recite the couplets of Shahnama Islam, and poems of Iqbal every now and then.
The father and the son would also read dozens of couplets of Ali Mohammad Shahbaz for me.
I am very young then in my twenties.I didn't know too much about poetry. But the frequency with which the duo would read the couplets of Shahbaaz was enough to make me one of his fans.
I didn't know then who was Ali Mohammad Shahbaz.I would simply feel exaulted at listening to his poetry. His couplets had utmost soothing effect.

All these poetic expression have been there ever since my chilhood. As a child I had never thought I would ever become a poet.I had never expected that I would someday set to find out where my favourite poet had his nest.
The time fled with immence speed ,and it was only last Sunday when I received a phone call from some seemingly known voice. He started complaining why I didn't meet my word and visit him till now.The voice was definitely of Ibn Shahbaaz(Nazir Qurashi). He was humble enough, and gave me great regards. He persisted on my visit to him,and made me fulfil the promise on this Sunday ,September,2,2018.
I reached to the residence of Late Ali Mohammad Shahbaaz by 10 am,and saw my elder brother eagerly waiting my arrival at the Handwara Nowgam road at Shatgund. What I saw in the first instance that it was a beautiful house standing on the edge of road at a table shaped piece of land overlooking the magdamized 60 feet road. The scenery was a treat to eyes.

The hospiItality of the Shahbaz enclave was unparllel.Nazir Ibn Shahbaaz served me food by himself. All of his children kept around me.A large number of varieties of meet preparations had been cooked.
Next,we had a detailed discussian about the life and poetry of this matryed poet. His collection of elegies "خونی خون" is almost complete. The collection  of Gazzals "چآنی دری" is all set to be released in the comming months. The arrangements to this effect are almost complete.
The best part of the day was the session which Nazir Ibn Shahbaz shared with me reading out hundreds of couplets of this legendary poet from his three unpublished collections.
The poetry, when it will come to the public domain will surely start a new era.Every gazzal has more than ten couplets, and every couplet has tremendous standard. The romantic tint, and the elloquence with which Shahbaaz was blessed makes him as philosophical as a poet as Galib, and as romantic as Keats. The readers will, for sure, explore themselves in the poetry of this genius. The reseach scholars will find treasures in between the lines of Shahbazz.By 2 pm we went to the graveyard and offered fatiha khani.
It was a day worth remembering.

Pleasures of Reading

Pleasures of Reading

By: Tariq Ahmad Malik
Books are the most wonderful of all the inventions of man.with out them all human wisdom would have lost. But for them man would have no sense of history, and he would have to pursue every goal by starting from nothingness. Thank God, This is mere an assumption.
Books lend us indomitable mind power. They bestow us with a renewed
imagination .They impart us knowledge, and by investing our time in knowledge we are fetched the best interest. Book reading makes human mind peaceful, and a peaceful mind generates power. Books , when read with zeal and zest, make a man ‘man of value’ .Such a life lasts and denies the death. Books guide us how to fish, and feed us through out the life. Books shape our mental culture. Books are some times discredited as immoral. Such books do, actually show the world its shame.
Among all hobbies ,book reading is the wisest choice. The wise use of leisure time is, by now, a million dollar problem. Most of the humans descend to kill this precious time. Killing time, according to philosophers, is not a murder, but a suicide. Reading habits can save us from committing this crime.
Some times, when we claim that reading imparts pleasure, the question arises what psychological phenomenon can be termed as pleasure. Does pleasure connote the satisfaction of certain desire? Yes. We are endowed with many means to satisfy our cardinal and spiritual desires, and time is one among them. If time is termed as- [a] prime time and [b]leisure time. The prime time has to be used to earn living while as the leisure for pursuing hobbies. Reading in this respect is a mega leisure choice.
Reading always works wonder. It helps us make intelligent use of leisure. It helps us grow our talent. It extends us a vision and help us do the impossible.
Reading makes us abreast of worldly affairs and there of various challenges the world
faces. Reading works towards making us full men. By marshaling upon the handy information of books, we can make a smooth go on the path of innovation.
Reading shapes our opinion, and saves us from aimless running on wrong roads. It makes us aim specific, single minded, and dedicated .Reading makes us grow optimistic. It helps us see from the lock ups of stress and strain only stars rather than mud.It is said that prejudice is the child of ignorance. A well-read person is, then, washed off of prejudice and bias. In most cases the people who hold books dear have least time to worry. Thus reading substitutes work for worry.
Reading brushes up our memory. It helps us cash in on the experiences of the men who have make a mark in their lives.Reading paves us for finding their feet on the sands of time.
Specific reading determines our ambition. There are books related to every faculty which have currency in the practical world. Man only needs to choose them to excel his mettle. The news papers, economic journals, Science magazines, political journals, and magazines on poetry and literature etc make the reader up to date with the present day competition.
Reading imparts confidence. It makes us believe that even the great people had been beset with problems and challenges, and that they had fallen many a time, but their greatness could sustain by rising every time they fell. Books lend us the conviction that great things are done when men and mountains meet, they are not
done by jostling in street.
Reading is such an investment that has no diminishing returns, no market risks. It has high credit worthiness. All success stories unveil the fact that great achievers have essentially a good taste of reading. The I.A.S toppers, despite achieving their coveted goals often complain that they could not do justice with reading. They do dub it their
biggest mistake.
Time and again, it is proved that the people who are not used to reading are disqualified for living a worthwhile life. Their dreams of becoming titans are always chocked.
It is book reading which exposes us to the annals of our past glory. By reading the classicals, we learn how human civilizations have sustained the whirlpools of the natural calamities and political traumas, and reached the present day state of affairs. Books teach us to doubt, to inquire and then to discover the validity of the findings .this systematic approach has been the routine of all great thinkers. Books ,as selfless friends, make us carefree. They work for our betterment without asking for rewards. They only want us to attend them attentively, and with full meditation. Books never misguide us . they show us our shame in order that we correct our selves. They attune us with wisdom and enlightenment. They keep us far from the unconvincing temptations of madding crowds.
Books teach us to act with positive approach. they encourage us to be courageous. They keep our morale high.
Book reading enthuse us to grow our own height no matter how tall our grand parents had been.
Reading shapes our personality. It nurtures our wit. It carves of us quick witted orators who spellbound the listeners with their wedding bells. The well-read
people maintain the vivacity of language. They prove to the world that nothing in this world is as alive as a word.Their attitude with structuring the sentences , their idiomic style, their brevity, and their caressing of figures of speech make the language a sensation. Our attitude and aptitude towards reading ultimately determine our altitude in society.
To conclude ,it may be safely said that reading makes a full man ,conference a ready man, and writing an exact man. The profession of teachers, lawyers, judges etc will come to a stand still if they stop reading books. The students grow elite in the company of books only .It is only by dint of reading that Japan has grown their human capital to the sensational heights. To cut the story short we may conclude with saying that all of us can not become great, but all of us can attach our selves to something that is great. Why not that thing be reading when we have conviction that reading is a million dollar blessing.

Behrampora History

Behrampora Rafiabad
By :Tariq Ahmad Malik
The model village Behrampora is also known as “the Gate Way Of Rafabad”. The village is situated to the North-West of “Apple Town Sopore” at the distance of eight kilometers. Its co-ordinates are 34*,19’,43” N ,and 74* ,23’,57”E. The village is inhabited (in 2012) by more than six thousand people. The village is spread on one and a half square kilometer area. The village has nine mohallas under two panchayat halqas.- Behrampora “A” ,and Behrampora “ B”.The village has 257 acres of common land.
Behrampora, as legend has it, was founded by a Muslim Saint Behram Sahab in the second half of the Sixteenth Century. This saint was the contemporarian of the world famous Kashmiri saint Hazrat Makhdoom Sahab(1456-1509). Behram Sahab was destined with a long life, and enjoyed the privilege to be the witness to the era when Kashmir had the pride of having its own rulers. Behram Sahab lived to see the rulers like those of Muhammad Shah( 1493_1528), and Nazuk shah(1529-30).He, however missed the rule of Yousf Shah (the last ruler of Kashmir) very marginally. As history has it , Yousf Shah ruled Kashmir uptil 1586 A.D. before falling to the conspiracy of Mughals. Since then Kashmir could never fnd its self rulers.
Behram Sahab lived a very simple life. He had least inclination towards worldly pleasures. He lived on the Northern bank of the Pohru Nallah. He was, however, very avid of mulberry fruit. For the entre fruit season the saint would take himself ferry to the southern bank of the Nallah where a 257 acre mulberry orchard would stretch its hem to welcome the pious saint .As legend has it, the saint had erected a thatched hut amid the mulberry orchard on a table shaped piece of land. This hut would act as his abode during the rough course of the weather. During his stay in the hut people would come to seek blessing from him. There would always be a good rush of devotees. Many devotees became his permanent disciples and erected their huts around the hut of Behram Sahab. Soon a habitaton was formed . The kashmiri term for habitaton is ‘Pur’. Thus the habitaton came to be known as Behrampur in 1550’s A.D. The saint did ,however, choose Yunsoo (a habitaton on northern side of Nallah Pohru) as his final restng place where his grave is stll an inspiraton for the local community. The place where Behram Sahab is believed to have erected his thatched hut is now a permanent grave yard in Ganie Mohalla infront of the mosque.
Behrampora has now lost its much hyped common land to the developmental programmes. There are dozens of school buildings on it.There are many play fields, a hospital building, an animal husbandry building, a Community Hall, and two panchayat Ghars erected on the chest of the erstwhile mulberry orchard. One can see now only ten to twenty mulberry trees hither and thither around these structures .This stands testmony that the mulberry orchard of 1800 canals was the pride of the village up till 1991 A.D.
The village presents a nice scenery .It has metalic roads running in its interiors . The structures on either side of the road lends it a look of a developed market site. The village has now a good count of public buildings. There is a Government Higher Secondary school, a private high school, three middle schools and a religious madrassa. Thus the children have an easy access to schools. The villagers live in perfect harmony. The village has its own Village Welfare Commitee which keeps the menaces in check and undertake developmental Initiatives .The village Auqaaf Commitee looks afer the village institutions like those of shrines, Eidgah, mosques, and grave yards.
The sons of this proud village are very enterprising .The transiton from traditonal agriculture to the modern techniques is quite visible in Behrampora. One can find villagers ploughing their farm land with tractors, spraying their orchards with diesel motors and ferrying their agricultural produce in load carriers. The village has many poultry farms which supply the poultry to the diferent markets of the area. The milk producton of the village is tremendous. The retailers sell in totality more than two thousand liters of milk and four hundred liters of curd every day.
The village has nearly fifty contractors to carry on the works of JKPCC, R&B,and PWD departments. They are always seen building metallic roads, hospital and school buildings, drainage systems and link roads of the village. They are well equipped with bulldozers, load carriers and mixers.
The transport sector of Behrampora deserves a special menton .One can see the passenger vehicles of Behrampora plying on every road of RafiAbad. But for the transport of Behrampora the upper reaches of RafiAbad would have been craving to see the road connectvity even in this twenty first century. During the first half of the twenteth century ,Behrampora was very famous for its artisans. The village was virtually a colony of gold smiths. Though 95% of the artsans have had a transiton from the craft, yet the remaining 5% have consolidated their positon in the field. Now the gold smiths of this village are having monopoly in almost all the markets of RafiAbad. One can find the jewellery of this village stalled in Sopore,Watertgam,Dangiwatcha,Behrampora,Kralgund and Seelu. The trustworthiness of these jewelers is the matter of great pride for the village.
The village fruit growers have had many strides in their field. A good percentage of them have excelled in the field, and have installed shops n Fruit Mandi Sopore. They have proven themselves into trustworthy and potential buyers of apple fruit. The hawkers of Behrampora lend the village the early excitement. Rising with the skylark these early birds are seen loading their horse-carts with kitchen-wares, vegetables, fruits, and junk, and exposing the nearby habitatons to the music of horse hoops .They return to their storages by twilight and add charm to the crowded hours of the village .
The topography of Behramp[ora is matchless. Surrounded by apple orchards on either side, the village presents a glorious look .In the west of the village, there is a beautful Sports Stadium overlooked by two huge water tanks. There is a much decorated eidgah and the shrine of Dedmoj Sahiba adjacent to the Sports Stadium. One can see the bright face of Govt Higher Secondary School Behrampora glowing across the fence of the stadium. In the east of the village there is a New Type Primary Health Centre building promising the visitors with sound health. The northern side of the village is an expanse of greenery where a dozen teams of children enjoy playing diferent games. The village has also a beautful sports field in its south. Thus this village of landscapes have every merriment to offer to the villagers.
There is a lot more to speak of about this beautful village-Stories of landmarks of educated youth, stories of the compettition in educaton, stories of the outlook of the new generaton ,and the like .This writer has simply initated to unravel these stories so that the budding writers may pick up the thread and glorify this village with their write-ups.
So, dear readers, let’s work together to help our village grow on modern lines. Lets keep honing our internal pull and make ourselves the more responsible sons of this proud village--- Long live Behrampora.
